Christmas Tree and Outdoor Decorations

Advent Calendar - check.  Christmas tree - check.  Outdoor decorations - check.  Christmas Cards - check.  Indoor decorations - in progress.  I swear you need 2 months to get prepared for Christmas!  This year, though, I'm taking my time.  No need to rush and be stressed.  I'm just enjoying each one and the memories they are creating.  This past Saturday, we went to cut down our Christmas tree.  We had so much fun.  It was a mild day...in the 40's.  You have to ride a wagon out to the tree field, pick out your tree, cut it down, and then ride the wagon back to the farm.  The driver of the tractor on the way back was great!  He let us all know that there was a requirement to sing Christmas carols on the way back to the farm and if we didn't want to do that, the way back was that way and you could walk.  And given that we had to ride out to the field, I'm sure you can imagine the walk was not short.  Of course he was joking and everyone laughed, but he was serious about the singing.  So, we sang!  Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and the Twelve Days of Christmas (a few different times).  It was a fun time!  After getting the tree home and in some water, we started on the outdoor decorations.  We put the lights up a little different this year, but I still love it.  Hailey was not too happy about there not being any along the roof and in the bushes, but I think she's gotten over it.  You have to teach your kids how to deal with change at some point! ;-)

Too much sun in the eyes! :-)

On the wagon heading out to the field.

We thought it was fun how our shadows looked!

We looked at a few trees, but finally chose this one.

Hailey takes a turn at sawing.

My turn at sawing.

Brian finishes it off and trims some of the lower branches with his sawzall.

Hauling it back to the wagon.  Clara had some milkweed pods and Hailey some extra tree branches.

Another family took this picture for us.

This farm has been around since 1840.  So neat!

Shaking off the dead needles and wrapping it with twine for the trip home.

All decorated and ready for some gifts!

Outdoor lights and decorations.  We have a spotlight on any empty manger (with straw in it...it's hard to see in the picture) waiting for baby Jesus to arrive!  Behind that is an angel sounding a trumpet.

Different angle.
