Last Sunday, Hailey learned about Communion and why we partake in it. The entire Sunday School class was devoted to learning about this sacrament. The parents (of 1st graders only) met with one of our pastors, Reverend Roberta, after the church service to discuss how we could help our child further understand during the upcoming week the importance of taking Communion. This Sunday was World Communion Day where all Christians from around the world partake in Communion together. So, before the church service this morning, Reverend Roberta led a small ceremony for all the 1st graders who felt he/she was ready to partake in today's Communion.
Each child was given a special necklace commemorating the ceremony after his/her parents said, "You are welcome at the Lord's table. God loves you and so do we", and placing the necklace over their child's head. Hailey was very excited. She's been wearing her necklace all day!
A funny from the church service this morning...for the Children's Sermon, the pastor usually says, "All the children can now come forward." This morning, the pastor said, "All of the young Christians can now come forward." Hailey had already started to make her way out of the pew when she stopped, looked at me, and said, "Does that still the mean the children?"
All ready for church!
After the ceremony...so proud of her Communion cross!
The wooden cross has grapes and wheat on it to symbolize the bread and wine.
