I especially loved the prayer of confession of sin we prayed during the service this morning. I found it to be very pertinent in this election year. It read, "Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste the land and pollute the seas. The fear and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor and nation against nation. We abuse your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression."
The "Baby Homecoming" event was for all babies and their families that had been born since 2011. They had crafts, games, snacks, raffle, face painting, character visits, etc. The girls really enjoyed it! We saw our friends, Steve and Laura, there with their twin babies as they also delivered at the same hospital. I also ended up seeing a co-worker of mine that I worked with probably 9 years ago. It was great catching up with her!
My mom's favorite birthday meal is Chop Suey, but not everyone in the family likes it, so she settles on ordering Chinese instead. We ate an early dinner and then opened presents and ate cake afterwards. It was a great family time as always!
Hailey received her first (and hopefully only) Discipline Referral Form from the principal's office this week. She hid lipstick in her pocket from me (I had told her she was not allowed to take them to school with her) and got it out on the bus. She and her friend, Jenna had fun putting it on, but since there wasn't a mirror, they misjudged exactly where their lips were. Can you imagine the principal attempting to keep a straight face when talking to them? They were taken to the principal's office as soon as the bus arrived to school. We obviously had a long talk about it when she got home!
It's been chilly a couple days this week, so Clara sported her hat that Uncle Vince and Aunt Austin brought back from Ireland for her.
Clara tossing taking off rings for the Ring Toss game at the "Baby Homecoming".
The girls got to each pick out one pumpkin to take home with them.
Sitting on the straw bales.
Getting her face painted.
A butterfly! I tried to convince her to get a pumpkin, but if there's a butterfly on the list, she sees nothing else on the list! :-)
Clara sat still long enough to get this much of a butterfly. She liked seeing it in the mirror!
On our way back home (for a quick stop before heading over to my parents'), we saw that we were about to drive right into this storm. About three quarters of the way down the street, the hard, pouring rain just hit the car like a sheet. It was crazy!
The girls needed a front row seat for watching Grammy open her presents. They really look so old in this picture!
