4-H, Girl Scouts, Friends and Family

This week was full of fun activities!  First up was a 4-H hayride/horse show/bonfire on Monday night.  This was in place of October's meeting, and it was lots of fun!  The weather was just like you would expect for a Fall evening...crisp and cool but not too cold.  Brian stayed home with Clara, but I know he wished they could have joined us as well.  We rode the hayride down the street to the horse farm to watch the horse show.  Then we rode it back to the meeting place to roast marshmallows in a bonfire.  Hailey really enjoyed it, and couldn't wait to tell Brian all about it when we got home!

On Thursday evening, Hailey had her first Girl Scout meeting held at her school.  She is a Daisy and will earn "petals" throughout the year.  She was very excited that her classmate, Elle is also in her troop.  The moms went over all the adult stuff while the girls began to learn the Girl Scout pledge with the other troop leader.  The meetings will be bi-monthly, so between this and 4-H, she'll be pretty busy!  I know she will have lots of fun, though!

On Saturday morning, we visited some friends of ours that had a baby recently and then Brian's parents arrived around 1 pm for a weekend visit.  Brian's dad helped Brian start on the construction of a sewing/craft room for me in the basement (yes, I am very aware of how lucky I am!).  They were able to get 3 out of 7 walls up, so his dad is going to come back next weekend to try to get more done.  Brian's mom helped the girls and I make applesauce from the McIntosh apples we got up in Bayfield, Wisconsin a couple weekends ago on Saturday and then rake leaves and clean up the garden on Sunday.  She also entertained the girls and took them for a walk to the park.  We certainly appreciated all the help they provided!  After they left, Brian and I chopped several of the tomatoes that had ripened and placed them in freezer bags for recipes that call for a can of chopped/diced tomatoes.  It will be nice to have fresh tomatoes to use throughout the winter!

This Mustang was born in the mountains of Nevada and brought in several years ago by a Government Mustang Challenge on taming wild Mustangs.  They sure are beautiful horses!

I took this video of one of the horses barrel racing!

Back at the bonfire eating S'mores!

I love these girls!

Watching a show on TV.

We were able to make 7 quarts and one half pint of applesauce.  These 6 went to the freezer for winter consumption.

The pumpkins we were able to get this year.  They aren't very big, but at least we got something!  We now have them sitting in the sun to ripen.  The two on the right are jack-o-lanterns and the little one on the left is an eating pumpkin.

Grandma took a break from raking leaves to give the girls a quick snack.

Surrounded by leaves!

So much fun!

Opening up a pre-Halloween gift bag from Grandma and Grandpa.

The guys working hard on the sewing/craft room.

We were able to get 7 bags of tomatoes which equates to 7 cans of tomatoes from the store and a savings of more than $7!  We still have more tomatoes ripening, too.  Yay!
