Hailey signed up for a 4-H Beekeeping workshop to learn how to make a beeswax candle. We went to a local beekeeping business last night and the owner took us through the process of how the bees make the wax to seal off the honey in the hive, how the wax is then harvested, and then how a candle can be made out of the wax. Of course, it smelled really good in the room as the wax was melting down to be poured! We can't wait to burn our candles here at home!
Listening to the owner speak about the process.
Preparing the wicks so they stand up straight in the jar.
Beeswax turns lighter in color and shrinks away from the sides before getting darker as it finishes cooling. So neat! The cake-looking thing is a huge several pounds of beeswax!
One of the 4-H leaders helps pour the liquefied wax into the jar.
My sister took this picture of Hailey there.
