Floating our way to the State Fair
We drove through some heavy rain storms on our way down to the State Fair on Friday. The Emergency Alert alarms kept going off on our phones to warn us of the impending Flash Floods in each area. Clara started to get a little concerned and asked, "Dad, does this car float?" Thankfully, we were just ahead of the storm all the way down to the Decatur area where we were staying (the storm was moving in a southeast direction so we didn't experience the heaviest rains while we were driving) that within 5 minutes of getting checked in to our hotel room, it started down-pouring. The Springfield airport logged 3.44" of rain in one hour and when it all ended, the total came to a little over 5". The State Fair experienced lots of flooding, but thankfully the ground had absorbed the majority of it by Saturday morning.
