4-H: Farm Heritage Festival

Our 4-H Club has a booth at the Farm Heritage Festival every year.  It's a 2 day event and our largest fundraiser, so we always have a great time!  Hailey and I were only able to volunteer on Sunday since she had a game on Saturday and my aunt and uncle were coming up to go apple picking.  We were there open to close (9 am to 4 pm) and took a little break around lunch time to walk around a little bit and visit some of the booths.  At our booth, we had little crafts to do, face painting, petting a few reptiles, pop and water sales, and general 4-H information.  I talked to at least 4 different families interested in joining 4-H, so I was very excited!

Getting our booth all set up!

Hailey and Laura help to put out some bean toss games.

My sister and Adam came to volunteer as well.  Adam was being Mr. Shy for this picture.

But then he got to pet a snake and thought that was pretty cool!

Miss Tammy, one of our co-leaders and owner of all the reptiles at our booth, shows Hailey how to hold on to "Orange Crush", a corn snake.

At this moment she can't believe she's holding it by herself!

She convinced Laura to hold it briefly for a picture, too.

Then all she wanted to do was hold it the entire time.  That is, until it wrapped itself a little too tight around her neck and she got completely scared.  It took a little while for her to want to hold it again, but she didn't put it around her neck after that!

Lots of tractors on display!

We love 4-H!

We visited the wool spinning booth and this woman showed Hailey and I how to spin this Alpaca wool into yarn.  She gave us the spinner (her husband makes them) and that whole bundle of wool to take home with us.  I was soooo excited!

This was an old fashioned machine that braids thread into a cord.

We got to watch a sheep herding demonstration with sheep dogs.  It was so neat!

It amazes me that the sheep still know he's back there even though they are looking forward.

You can see the trainer to the right using various whistle commands for the dog to follow.

We took a covered wagon ride.  While it would have been cool to ride with a cover over the top, we wouldn't have been able to see anything.

Checking out the other booths on our ride.

We didn't get a chance to visit this demonstration, so I'm not sure what the name of this machine is, but I took a picture as we were driving by on the wagon ride.
