Our group puts together "Sunshine Boxes" as a community service project for members of a local church (that we use for our meetings) who are shut-in or recovering from illness. We met on Sunday to assemble the boxes and then each family picked a recipient to deliver the box to. We had seven names on the list this year. Some of these recipients have gotten one for a few years now and look forward to them each time. I had the privilege of calling each of them ahead of time to let them know we would be delivering them. What an uplifting experience to hear the happiness and joy in their voices! In the boxes are homemade cookies, fruit, mints, a hot pad to hold a bowl after it has been microwaved, a bowl, a blessing mix bag (an idea I found online), a handmade card, and a craft (a hand print turkey with a Thanksgiving poem). Everyone had so much fun assembling them!
Assembly line for the blessing mix bag.
Some of the moms helped put the cookies together.
Others helped with the turkey hand prints.
Finished boxes!
The assemblers!
The kids got to also make a turkey hand print to take home, so here they are waiting in line to have the eyes and beak glued on.
