We headed out on Saturday morning to cut down this year's Christmas tree. First, I must say that besides last year, we normally have snow coming down or on the ground the first weekend in December, but it was 60 degrees this year! Majorly disappointed! We want snow! Anyway, we went to a place in southern Wisconsin, because all of the tree farms nearby us are pretty well picked over. Well, I should have called to ask what their prices were before we left, because when we arrived and read the prices, we knew we were definitely not going to pay $10-$14 per foot for something that we were going to have to cut down ourselves! Yes, that's $60-$84 for just a 6 foot tree. My mom said she had seen signs for a tree farm about a half hour west of us, so she called for us to make sure they were open and we drove out there. Every tree on the lot was a flat $55, no matter the size or type. Now that's a better price! I would say there was at least 10 acres of land with trees everywhere...and you'd have to look really hard to find one under 9 feet. Brian spotted "the one" 2 minutes after we got there, but we continued to search the lot to see if there were any better ones. Isn't that always how it happens? We got it home, in the tree stand, and our neighbor helped Brian carry it in the back door. Hailey couldn't wait to start putting ornaments on it. We ended up having to go to Walmart to buy bigger lights, because the miniature lights just looked dwarfed on it. This was okay, though, because both Brian and I had bigger lights on our trees as we were growing up and it produced a feeling of nostalgia to have them on this one. We put the ornaments on while listening to Christmas music and then admired our handiwork when we got it all finished! Hailey took a pillow and blanket and laid underneath the tree while watching TV. She is so excited this year!
We went to church on Sunday morning, Brian helped my sister and brother-in-law move some more boxes in the afternoon (Hailey got to play with her cousin, Laura, during this time and they had a GREAT time), and did our Advent celebration after dinner. It was a busy Sunday!
Off we go!
Hey, wait up! I got distracted by a stick on the ground!
Yep! This one is the best!
Brian starts sawing...
Hailey wanted a turn, too.
Cutting the netting off. Brian used a tape measure and measured it to be 10 feet 2 inches tall! The largest tree we've had yet!
Watching Daddy begin to put the lights on. Supposedly the view is better if you lay on the floor and look up!
Putting the ornaments on. I love the memories each ornament invokes as you put them on the tree.
All finished!
Next year we go for the 16' tree. Go big or go home. Love BC
