Soccer Party

Hailey's last soccer game was on Saturday and they won 6-1 (in a very hot hot game...upper 80's)!  They went undefeated the entire season (only lost 1 game in the Fall last year).  One of her teammate's parents said that this was the best team their daughter has played on since she started soccer.  She said the coaching has been great and the girls worked extremely well together.  Unfortunately, you can't keep the same team year after year, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed she gets to play with some of the same girls again in the Fall.  We have definitely seen a huge improvement in Hailey from the beginning to the end.  She walked in to an extremely talented team having not played any organized sport before and learned quite a lot!  It has been a lot of fun watching her play!  The coaches organized a year-end party for the girls at a local restaurant on Sunday evening.  They got their trophies and a hedgehog.  The hedgehog became the team's inside joke as the head coach's daughter had wanted a real hedgehog as a pet.  Coach "might have" told her that if she scored 5 goals in one game, she could get one.  He says he doesn't remember committing to that. :-)  Ever since then, it's been a source of motivation for the girls and helped them come back from a deficit of 3 goals in the 4th quarter of one game to win.  Instead of cheering their team name "Lightning" before games, they came up with "Viva La Hedgehog!".  It's been a fun year!

Doing their pre-game cheer!

Goalie for the 3rd quarter.  She did awesome!
